Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are thin, protective coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth (molars). These teeth often have deep grooves where food and bacteria can become trapped, leading to cavities. Sealants act as a barrier, preventing these harmful substances from causing tooth decay.

Space Maintainers

If your child has lost a baby tooth prematurely, you may be worried about how this will affect their permanent teeth. Without the proper support of baby teeth, other teeth can shift and move into the wrong spaces in your child’s mouth. This will cause their permanent teeth to be guided into incorrect positions. Dental space maintainers for children can help avoid crooked teeth and other dental problems.

Baby Tooth Pulpotomy (Baby Root Canal)

A pulpotomy, often called a 'partial root canal', is a procedure used to save a primary (baby) tooth when decay has reached the nerve inside the crown of the tooth but the roots remain healthy. The infected portion of the nerve is gently removed, the remaining healthy tissue is treated with a medicated material, and the tooth is restored—most commonly with a durable stainless steel crown. Preserving baby teeth helps maintain proper chewing, speech development, and space for the permanent teeth to erupt correctly. The procedure is comfortable and can often be completed with local anesthesia, sedation, or general anesthesia, depending on your child's needs.

Stainless Steel Crowns

Stainless Steel Crowns are recommended for baby teeth with cavities, especially in children at high risk for tooth decay who are not expected to lose the tooth anytime soon. These full-coverage crowns are the most durable restorative option, protecting the tooth from future cavities and reducing the need for additional treatment. Because they are made of stainless steel, they have a silver appearance and may be visible when your child opens their mouth big.

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing gas)

Nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, is a safe and gentle way to help children feel more relaxed during their dental visit. Unlike sedation or general anesthesia, your child will remain awake, responsive, and able to communicate throughout the procedure. Most children remember their visit afterward but feel calmer and more comfortable during treatment.

Nitrous oxide is designed to help children relax—it does not make them fall asleep or force them to be calm. It works best for children who are old enough to understand instructions, are willing to cooperate, but simply feel a little nervous or anxious about dental treatment.

Because the effects wear off within minutes after the gas is turned off, most children are able to return to their normal activities shortly after their appointment.

General Anesthesia (Sleep Dentistry)

General anesthesia allows your child to sleep comfortably through dental treatment while being continuously monitored by a dental anesthesiologist. Your child is gently put to sleep with a mask, after which an IV is placed and a breathing tube is inserted to protect the airway during treatment. Once the procedure is complete, the anesthesia is stopped, and your child is monitored in recovery until it is safe to go home.

General anesthesia is recommended for children with extensive dental needs, extreme dental anxiety, very young age, or special healthcare needs when treatment cannot be completed safely while awake.
